Before you interview with a company, consider doing a little research about the industry and the specific company. Your preparation and professionalism will translate to a more successful interview. You'll also be ready to ask relevant questions about the company.

Remember that many jobs are never posted, so another way to jump start your job search is to take some time to meet with people in your area of interest and participate in an “informational interview.” This will give you an idea about trends in your chosen industry along with the opportunity network with people who may be able to assist with your job search.

Accounting


This organization has existed since 1887. CPAs as well as students who are not CPAs are eligible to join. The benefits to student members are access to publications, scholarships, and an assortment of accounting information. This organization has existed since 1916. The benefits of membership include access to publications, job placement services, and an opportunity to participate in forums to help shape the accounting profession.

 The first page of the file includes key points about the skills that a CMA would have. Those skills would be what an employer would expect of a good internal accountant (internal to a business that is, like someone who would be pursuing Cleary's Corporate Accounting BBA degree). The second page of the file includes a comparison between the CMA and the CPA designations.
This is a national, non-profit organization which helps its members to identify and solve problems in automating the corporate tax function.  They have a forum on their website and they also publish newsletters and sponsor conferences throughout the year. Benefits to membership include discounts to attend the conferences, various ACT publications and access to a database of computer hardware and software used in different corporate tax departments. Cost of membership is $125 per person annually and $400 for legal entities.
The MACPA is Michigan's premier resource for CPA's in education, government, industry and public accounting as well as educators and students. Members of this organization have access to more than 300 continuing professional education courses annually along with other related association task forces and legislative advocacy programs. They also offer member savings plans to a variety of products and services such as insurance rates, credit cards and popular magazines. Membership fees range from $20 to over $200 annually, depending on different criteria.
