Philanthropy
Philanthropy. Some people have a hard time pronouncing this word; others have a hard time understanding what it means. The old definition of philanthropy is “love of humankind;” the new definition is “voluntary action for the common good.” For years, philanthropy has been associated with just donating money. But there is so much more to “love of humankind” and “voluntary action for the common good” than just financial resources: volunteering to be a mentor, participating in an event, or becoming active with the Cleary University Alumni Association are a few ways of donating your time—another valuable resource.
In addition to time and money, talent is yet another form of philanthropy. Time may be of the essence but expertise is just as important. The knowledge that you possess is sometimes more valuable than a monetary contribution, and the doors that can be opened simply by a phone call to someone you know may be all that is needed to assist Cleary in accomplishing a goal. Of course, monetary contributions play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of offering a quality business education to current and future students.
So time, talent, and treasure are all part of the philanthropic environment at Cleary. Decide what is best for you and become involved. For more information, please contact Dennis Purdy, Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations at dpurdy@cleary.edu.
